Teal Toes - September - Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Image
September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. I recently held a contest and gave away Teal Toes polishes (Diamond Cosmetics - Don't Teal My Heart) to people who follow my blog, facebook, twitter, several other people who I do swaps with in other countries and 5 more in FB Beauty/Nail Polish groups that I'm a member in. In all, almost 2 dozen bottles. This was made possible because of a very caring man named George Kyricos Stamas. He ordered I don't know how many hundreds of polishes for this cause and shipped them to other's to help spread the word. He used his own money to do all of this. The only thing I can say I did was take the time to spread the word through as many avenues as I could, wrap and ship the polishes to everyone. You can learn more about this cancer awareness group by going to their Facebook at Teal Toes , or their website www.tealtoes.org . There is also an event planned on Facebook and you can read more about it here Wear Teal Day . Just a no...

Nfu-Oh Aqua Base...Worth it? Necessary?

Image
Tonight I was doing swatches of some holographic polishes that I haven't tried yet. Nfu-Oh's, Essences from Europe and BK's from Hong Kong. And the question that keeps coming up, is the Nfu-Oh Aqua Base really necessary? Isn't there a cheaper easier to access brand available? I've seen this asked more than anything else recently and it even came up in our Nail Polish and Gossip Group on Facebook. I'm going to let you answer this question for yourself, here are pictures I took, all using Nfu-Oh #66 Green Holographic polish. On the first picture, on my thumb, middle and pinky finger, I used the Nfu-Oh Aqua base coat, on the ring and pointer finger I used another well known brand of base coat. This is one coat of polish and I didn't clean up since I was taking it right back off. You can click the pictures to enlarge. I only used one coat, I didn't want to waste any more of this beautiful polish, but you can tell it does not play well with...

Ruffian Mani with some Bling - Guest Post by Tricia

Image
Today Tricia is bringing you some more of her beautiful nail art. This is a Ruffian Manicure with some extra bling added. I am just learning how to do some forms of nail art and hope to bring you some in the future. 1) Paint nail with black polish 2) Using silver striper paint the deep smile line as a guide 3) Fill in with silver polish to cover desired area 4) While silver polish is still wet apply silver holographic foil flakes 5) Finish with sealer Items used: Color club- Where's The Soiree (a very pigmented Black) Art Club- solid silver nail striper Color club- Sex Symbol Art club- Silver Ice Pieces(silver Holographic foil/mylar flakes) Art club- sealer (On natural nails, I would definitely use a base coat for a longer lasting manicure) NOTE: Sex symbol is a silver glitter polish, I had to use 2 coats to get full coverage. I used that silver because my solid silver was broken. If using a solid silver polish, 1 coat would be good, since it just creates a background for the foil...

Zoya's Jem from the Mirrors Collection - Fall 2011

Image
Today I'm bringing you another beautiful polish, Jem, from the Mirrors Collection from Fall 2011. Zoya describes her as: A dark red-toned purple base with metallic dark pink highlights and subtle gold duochrome flecks.? This shade has it all; bold color, vampy drama, bright sparkle and a glam rock persona.? On their 1-5 Opaque scale, it is listed as a 5. I used a base coat, 2 coats of color and a top coat for this polish. It applied smoothly and it only took 2 coats to cover completely. This color has been compared to another one of Zoya's polishes, Valerie. I have both polishes and they are in the same color family, but I can also see differences. Do you need both colors? Which one would I pick between the two? That's up to you, I like having both. What are your thoughts about this polish? I love the darker Fall/Winter colors. You can find Zoya polishes at www.Zoya.com and at Ulta. They retail for $8. Zoya often does promotions on the Facebook page and you n...

Marbling Made Easy Tutorial- Guest Post by Tricia

Image
I got Color club's new Back to Boho collection today and just wanted to try them out, so I decided to share a way to do marble without all the mess. Its a great way to do marble toes. I personally hate doing water marbling, its too messy and does not always turn out right(depending on the temperature and brand of polish etc.) Its also a bit time consuming, since the water has to be dried thoroughly before top coat application. Using this method, the designs can be pre- made and just applied when wanted. Here's what to use: Nail polishes (I used Color club's Blue Topia & Shabby drab) Toothpick Plastic paper/ wax paper Metal pusher *note: Plastic paper should be a thick and strong, like a ziplock bag material. Its should be strong enough not to be torn easily and smooth/glossy enough so that the polish can be peeled off with easy. 1)lay a generous amount of nail polish on paper 2)Add drops of other colors 3)using the toothpick draw lines to create marble designs 4)Leave...

Nail Care Tips From Tricia - Part 1

Image
Having manicures is not only about polishing nails, its about taking care of your hands and nails. There are many myths about nails so I will try and cover a few popular ones as well. I have many tips to share so I'll do it in parts. This is part 1. 1)Never peel nail polish or gel polishes off your nails. It does severe damages on nail plates. Not only are you peeling off the product on the nails, but also top layers of the nail plate is being peeled off as well, thus making them weak and brittle. Please follow proper removal procedure to remove products from nails. 2)Prior to product removal, apply cuticle oils around skin of nails to prevent removing solvents from drying out surrounding skin. Dry skin = hang nails...hang nails are not our friends! 3)Prior to polishing nails, clean nail plate with 99% alcohol, it removes all oils/lotion residue from nails. There are many different nail cleansers sold, but they all consist of alcohol, if you can afford to purchase a nail prep, by a...

Zoya's Marina from the Mirrors Collection Fall 2011

Image
Zoya's Marina is my 2nd review of colors from the new Mirrors Fall 2011 Collection. This is a very unique color in my collection and I'm glad I added it. Zoya describes her as: A strongly blue-toned smoky silver-grey with a dusty metallic finish. A blue smoke shade to give a dreamy artistic look to the nails. On the opaque scale of 1-5, Marina is listed as a 5. I used a base coat, 2 coats of color and a top coat. Application was flawless, very smooth application. This will be one of my favorite Fall colors! You can click on the photos to enlarge them. Zoya can be ordered from Zoya.com and purchased at select retailers, polishes retail for $8 each. Have you tried Zoya yet and/or one of the fall colors? What is your favorite Zoya color?

Le Metier De Beaute - Silk Road/Where East Meets West - Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

Image
This is my second review for Le Metier De Beaute Nail Lacquers and I am just blown away by the colors yet again! The new 2011 Fall/Winter Collection is called Silk Road - Where East Meets West, you can read more about the naming of this collection on the Press Release . Application can be a little tricky with the lacquers because of the size of the bottle and brush being small, but the formula is so smooth it makes up for the size of the brush. You can click on each picture to enlarge it. Dynasty, Anatolia, Silk Road, Urban Dweller Dynasty - a deep, shimmering fuchsia. Anatolia - a rich plum illuminated with bronzy, golden shimmer. Silk Road - a metallic, bronzed copper. Urban Dweller - a rich chocolate plum with golden effervescence. Specifically formulated to be 3-Free, Proposition 65-compliant and fortified with strengthening proteins and hydrators, Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquers are highly pigmented for rich, glossy, long-wearing color. The Silk Road/Where East Meets We...
